There's big news in the Cincinnati Down syndrome community this week! We are getting a Gigi's Playhouse location coming to our city this fall. :) And, we could really use your donations to help it open.
Unfamiliar with Gigi's Playhouse? Gigi's Playhouse was founded 17 years ago by a woman named Nancy Gianni when her daughter Gigi was born with Down syndrome. Nancy couldn't find any good places to go that would help her daughter's development... so she created one! She opened the first Gigi's Playhouse in 2003 in Illinois. Since then, Nancy has helped open more than 50 locations all over the country! The next one is scheduled to open in Cincinnati this fall.
Each Gigi's Playhouse is a "Down syndrome achievement center." It's a place where kids with Down syndrome can receive therapies as infants/toddlers, tutoring as they get into school and career development programs as they get into the workforce. This combination promotes acceptance and inclusion for all people with Down syndrome, from birth through adulthood. The mission of Gigi's Playhouse is to change the way the world sees Down syndrome and to send a global message of acceptance for all! For more information about Gigi's Playhouse, go to GigisPlayhouse.org.
Gigi's Playhouse is set to open in Cincinnati this fall, and we could really use your help in getting things rolling! I've set up a page where you can make a donation in Alice's name. If we meet our goal of $2,100 for Alice's team, then Alice's picture will be up in the window of the new Cincinnati location! Every dollar raised goes toward the opening of the new location and all of the programs it will provide for those with Down syndrome in our community.
To donate, please go to
and click the green "Donate" button in the middle of the page.
Thank you so much in advance for any help you can give to make Gigi's Playhouse a reality in Cincinnati!
Love, Ann (and Alice and family)
